A Happy Birthday at Universal
Us girls started Ms.E's 5th birthday in a land "Far Far Away," spending the morning at Universal Studios Singapore.
Our cable car ride got us to the entrance gate just before opening at 10 am. We were able to fit in an exciting sunny morning with lots of rides, lunch in the air conditioned Jurassic Park Food Court, and left feeling content at 12:30 pm, which got us us home just in time for a nap.
It may be have been birthday luck, but Ms.E was able to ride everything she wanted, even though she didn't have an adult to accompany her on the rides. Ms.I absolutely refused to ride anything on this visit. She screamed as I tried to buckle her in, and I had to ditch out the exit twice before the ride started. She says, "I ride with Da Da," and she meant it. Seeing as Dad was not with us, I just let the big girls ride.
In Far Far Away Ms.E and Ms.C rode their first roller coaster, Enchanted Airways. It's a junior roller coaster but still pretty exciting - especially without Mom or Dad. Ms.C was allowed to ride "alone". They got the Supervisor to ride with Ms.E as her adult. The girls both loved it! Ms.C said, "I thought I might throw up". Ms.E said, "My tummy screamed, but my mouth didn't." Ms.C went through a second time, while Ms.E was excited to watch outside as she told me all about it. They got Ms.E on the "Puss in Boots" ride with the supervisor trick too.
In Jurassic Park, we had watched a Raptor hatch. The Scientist explained how the Incubator worked, and narrated the "hatching" which took a few minutes. They let us get a closer look at the baby which was actually moving. The crowd volunteered names, but Ms.C's choice was selected. Welcome to Jurassic Park Baby Willow!
We tried to "borrow" an adult for the Pterosaur ride, but it wasn't working out so well. Eventually we just tried to go on with me and the 3 kids. It worked this time, even though we were turned away like that last week. Ms.I refused to ride in the end. Ms.C ended up being Ms.E's "accompanying companion."
Trying to perfect our exit, we discovered that if you stick right to the edge of the lake in the middle of Universal, there seems to be a "quick" path which hugs the lake. There's also lots of shady seating here. We took that path from behind the Jurassic Park Food Court, bypassing the lands of Far Far Away and Madagascar, getting close to the Hollywood exit.
We took the LRT (light rail train) off Sentosa. It's free going off the island, and seem to be the quickest exit from Universal Studios. On a weekday at lunch time, there doesn't seem to be a line. With trains leaving every few minutes, we walk right on and are in VivoCity Mall and on our way home within minutes.
