B4 - The Zoo

In looking back at photos, I've got a few more activities we did with Grandma when she was visiting in February. We spent Feb. 28th at the Singapore Zoo.

We took a taxi and MsI got to try out her new "RideSafer Vest." The vest is the carseat and the regular seatbelt buckles into it. I was glad Jonathan was there, because it took a little bit of figuring out to get her strapped into the vest.

It's so exciting to now have this carseat option now. It means we don't have to very carefully coordinate a Grab vehicle that has a baby carseat and is also large enough for our family. Oddly, adding the carseat to our Grab means the number of guaranteed seats is actually less than in the larger Grabs that we can order without the carseat. I really didn't feel that taking a Taxi with no carseat (which is legal) was a reasonable option for us; It seems like the norm with kids in Singapore.

There was still a Prehistoric Exhibit at the zoo. We all liked the Woolly Mammoths.

This zoo trip seemed to be about upclose encounters.

We encounter with some "wild" monkeys here at the Zoo for the first time. The zoo has feeding stations for the local monkeys, but these monkeys are loose and not part of an exhibit.

We were actually looking at the monkeys in the exhibit (on the rocks in the picture below), when the wild monkeys descended from the trees. They scared the daylights out of us.  It's only our 2nd time seeing wild monkeys in Singapore. The first time those monkeys were very aggressive ones and we had to literally run away from them. This 2nd time, they weren't aggressive, but completely fearless. They ignored us like we weren't even there.

I was standing right under the tree the zoo monkeys climbed down, and right beside this sign. Then monkeys started running down the path weaving through the kids. They looked like they were almost the same size as MsI; she was not impressed. We were all leaning against the railing below before monkeys started to run down it.  I didn't get the best photos. I was more worried about where the kids were once I realized there was more than one monkey. There were a number of them.

We spent some time in the 2 aviaries. One has just butterflies, and the other is full of birds and animals like sloths, monkeys, and bats. You are right in with the animals here. There's not cages or anything to keep you separate from the animals. The little girls get a bit freaked out by the larger birds walking near them on the paths. We remind them to just stay close.

What's in there?
It's the Mouse Deer.
