B4: Universal with Grandma
We went to Universal Studios with Grandma at the end of February. At this point in time, only the driver was wearing a mask, but Universal had low crowds.
MsE was all about getting photos with the characters on this Universal trip. She was quite a ham. She absolutely fell in love with Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn spent a long time chatting with her and trying different poses for photos with MsE.
MsC got in some fun photos with Marilyn too. MsI is still happy to wave, but she's not getting close enough for a photos.
MsC finally got up the nerve to go on the Mummy in the Egypt section. She's been worried it would be spooky; It is.
It's like a cross between Disney's Indiana Jones and a roller coaster. MsC is just tall enough to ride. I think the fact that Grandma was going on help.
The ride had just started. Think we were into the 3rd scene when the ride suddenly stopped. It's the scariest part of the whole ride - the part where the mummies jump up at you. This is where the ride decided to shut down.
We were stuck in the pitch black for about 5 minutes. Your eyes eventually adjust and you can see some, but I was totally freaked out while trying not to show it to MsC. I felt certain someone would jump out at us; no one did. The announcements told us to stay in our seats in case the ride started up suddenly.
After 5 minutes the lights came on and the announcements told us they were coming to get us out. With the lights on MsC was able to get a good look at the "scary" room; I don't think she will be afraid of it any more. It took about 10 more minutes before we started to hear the talking of the employees coming for us. 3 employees appeared and ever so slowly helped us off one by one. Then we all had to wait in a line at the Emergency Exit from the scene. Finally when everyone was out they lead us down a set of stairs and set us free outside.
It's hard not to compare to Disney; Everything in Singapore is done at 1/2 speed at best. It felt incredibly slow, but safe. We were handed out "Express" Passes to skip the queue for one ride. Because there was 3 of us, Grandma had 3 passes to use. It was also so quiet that they passes weren't usually collected and we all go to go through the Express line for the rest of the day (Our family with our annual passes and Grandma with her 3 passes).
MsC loves this ride now and can't wait till Universal Studios open us again.
