I wasn't convinced that Christmas would find us in Singapore, but it did.

I'd never had Christmas in a tropical location before. Actually I'd never had Christmas anywhere except surrounded by family on Vancouver Island in Canada. Having family in town until days before Christmas kept any homesickness at bay for me.

The weather cooled a bit in Singapore in December with some rainier weather - mid 20's instead of the low 30's. We had some very festive seasonal moments.

Some of our activities included:

  • Photos with Santa
  • Christmas Tree Decorating
  • Christmas Shopping - Malls were decorated beautifully with Christmas songs.
  • We overhead Christmas carollers through our open balcony door one night. They were having a party at the Barbecue Pavilion near our place.
  • Gingerbread decorating with Friends on the Patio.
  • Cookie making on Christmas Eve day.
  • Christmas movies (We finally broke down and bought the smallest TV we could fine in Singapore. We went 6 months with no TV, although we did watch some on the computers).
  • Christmas in Universal Studios - We even saw it snow.
  • Christmas Party hosted by Jonathan's work (adults only)

We even had turkey dinner and present opening with my Mom and sister before they headed back to Canada a few days before Christmas.

The turkey came pre-cooked from the grocery store and was just reheated here. The shape of it was more like a goose, but it was definitely a turkey and super tasty. The order had said it came with stuffing and cranberry sauce, but neither looked like any we had seen before, so we skipped over those parts this year. Mom had brought me packages of Turkey gravy (gluten free) from Canada, so we go the gravy right. Potatoes and also Sweet Potato Casserole was just right too.

Our turkey before reheating for dinner.
I love that we are all barefoot here.

I had to take our picture in from of this tree with it's "High Voltage" sign and warning tape. Every light display in Singapore seems to have these signs. Were we seriously about to be electrocuted? I couldn't decide whether to be concerned.

We chose to set up a 5-foot fake tree that we brought from Canada. We cut the lights it came with off with scissors (unplugged at the time, lol) and added new lights with the Singapore/UK plug. 200 lights was all this little tree needed. 200 lights cost $50! Christmas decorations are just as expensive as I'd been warned they were. A new tree would have cost us over $500. I saw a tree pre-decorated selling for $1,500 in Tangs. Tangs is a high-end department store here.

Lots of Christmas stories with Granny.
Some hallway decorations.
Universal's Christmas displays
Chatting with the elves in Universal Studios.
MsE dancing in the rain in Universal in December.
The humidity meant that the gingerbread didn't stay crisp so we couldn't build with it. Tasted great!
Decorating (and eating) gingerbread on our friends' patio.
Opening presents with Granny before Christmas.
