DORSCON Brown?
I saw a friend call this stage, "DORSCON Brown."
Singapore fells like it is somewhere between DORSCON levels Orange and Red. Officially we're at Orange, and there is no plan to move to red, but things are getting more serious. Red would mean that it is spreading widely and that is certainly not happening.
The number of new cases is now going up by about 50 a day, with mostly imported cases, and Singapore has just implemented Social Distancing Measures. The new measures will hopefully kept us well away from red.
The Border has pretty much been locked down. You can leave, but you won't get back in unless you're a Permanent Resident or Citizen, and if you're one of those who leave you're going to have to pay your own medical costs if you get COVID 19 with 14 days of reentry.
With all the cases that may have recently entered Singapore and the possible 14 days for symptoms to appear, it sounds like Singapore is expecting a bad month to come. It sounds like they're hoping to get things back under control within 2 cycles (28 days).
Wasn't there an end of days movie called "28 Days Later"?
I was reading the speaking notes from the day before's March 24 COVID 19 Government Press Conference, and came across the line,
“the key message to all Singaporeans is: stay at home as much as you can, and go out as you need to work, go to school and out for essential tasks - but otherwise stay at home, reduce your social gathering, and all other activities for the next one month.”
STAY AT HOME.
Well, that's a change!
We've been being careful to practice good hygiene, but it's been pretty much business as usual here in Singapore. Most of directives before seemed to be directed towards businesses, like how far apart tables in restaurants needed to be. In fact, I think people got a little lax after Singapore announced a few weeks ago that it was staying at DORSCON Orange. We've seen more people in the mall. Universal Studios visitors picked back up. The pool was full again. I was feeling pretty comfortable myself.
After I read this, I realized MsC was talking to a friend in our Lobby. We already had put in place a "no-play dates, no friends in the house" policy, but MsC had let her friend up to tell her she couldn't play. I opened the door to our Lobby to find her with a different friend than we'd seen on the buzzer. This friend had returned on a plane from out of country about 5 days ago, and before entry quarantines were put in effect.
I had a mini-panic attack, but "calmly" kicked out the neighbour child out. I then Lysoled our entire lobby. ("Lysoled" must be an official action verb by now.) I may have sprayed all the air in there too. I certainly washed the bench, the stroller, the Lift button, the door handles, and the floor; opened a window; and placed a paper touched in a Ziploc bag to remain unopened; stripped the clothes off MsC; and then washed our hands.
...so no over reacting or freaking out here or anything...
