I was really homesick approaching Easter, but we still had a nice Easter Sunday.

Easter has always been a big deal for me. I think it's the most important religious holiday. My friends were surprised to hear that Christmas with all it's bustling activity didn't make me feel homesick, but with it's simple celebrations Easter did.

Other than the last 2 years in Singapore, I've never missed attending Church on Easter Sunday. After church we would always do a big family lunch. There are so many pictures of us as kids in our Sunday Best in my Granny's backyard taken right after our Easter Egg Hunt in the garden.

I didn't try to get a reservation for church. No one I know was able to snag a reservation to attend church anytime Easter Week, not even the people who attend weekly. Jonathan did help me find a Christian Book Store to pick up some gifts for the girls.

It was the first time I'd been in a Christian Book Store in Singapore. It was in a very nondescript building, with art studios and home furnishing stores. We took the old elevator up to the 9th floor. There was actually quite the view from up there.

Jonathan and I were amazed at the large size of the store, given the expensive cost of retail space in Singapore. About 20% of people in Singapore identify as Christians, with most of them being Catholic.

SKS Books looked more like a small old library, than a bookstore. It was just row and row of books shelved almost right up to the low ceiling. There were hardly any displays, but as long as you took the time there were lots and lots of options. I felt instantly at home - maybe it was the music and the smell of all those books. I was there browsing for a long time before I finally settled on things. I left with a bag of Easter books and some activities for us.

The afternoon before Easter we made Baskets from watercolour paper. MsE painted an Easter Basket filled with eggs for the bottom of her basket. While we waited for the baskets to dry so we could staple them together, the girls played Croque Carotte, the French game, which I think translates to Bite the Carrot. You move your bunnies up and down the hillside and hope you don't fall down a bunny hole.

Easter morning the girls had chocolate cake with fresh mango and blueberries. We read our new bible story books aloud. We also had a special parcel from Grandma arrive the night before, that we had kept for Easter morning. When our friend arrived and we went outside for an Easter Egg hunt around the vegetable plots in our condo.

The girls had to find my Easter basket outside to find the starting place of their Easter Egg hunt. It was our friend's first Easter Egg hunt. MsI kept trying to share her eggs with MsE every time she found more than one at once.

We tried to do it pretty fast, in the hopes that the ants wouldn't start crawling all over our "eggs." Ants are everywhere. We beat the ants. MsI even found a new creature. She pointed out what I thought was a slug, and asked, "Is that an egg?" I said, "No, don't pick that up." Turns out it was most likely a leach, Ugh.

Not a slug.

The girls were good about sticking to the paths and not trying to enter any of the gardens. We were watched pretty closely by one of the ladies gardening down there at the time. I couldn't decide if she was amused by the hunt or worried about us being near the gardens. It's harder to pick up on the social cues when everyone is in masks. I counted eggs before and after to make sure no "egg" was left any behind.
