Fun with MsI

MsI is a confident, cheery little person. She's almost 3 1/2 now.

She is very attentive to details. Right now, she points out everyone who has blue eyes. She walks right up to the person and says in a totally awestruck voice, "You have blue eyes...like me." She's even more thrilled if they also have "yellow hair." You have to realize that most of the people we see have black hair and dark eyes, and even in our family she is the only one with blue eyes. She is also a fan of Cinderella naturally.

MsI cut her toe on the path walking to the pool pretty good. She wasn't wearing shoes like she usually does. It wasn't deep, just long, so we just bandaged her up at home, and she hobbled around trying not to step on her bandaged foot. This is the first real injury (other than minor bumps and scrapes) that we can remember MsI getting.

So even though she's a risk taker - she likes to jump and climb and hang off every thing - she is not accident prone.

Also, I note that I've been in Singapore too long - I considered taking her to a clinic just so they could clean her cut. Everyone goes to the doctor for the littlest thing here.

After MsI was all bandaged up, I asked her what would make her feel better. The answer: Hot Tea and a Christmas Book.

MsI's got excellent pencil grip, so her colouring is exact. She make tidy circles and lines, but will only trace letters in a shaky hand so far. She can sing the abc's, knows some of the letters by name and/or sound.

She is a big fan of any sort of puzzle or matching game. She likes to play with the Children's Scrabble game, by matching up the letters tiles to the words (letters) written on the board.

MsI can count items past 10. She loves to play dominoes, matching the dots to another tile with the same number. She knows what the lower numbers are, and will count the dots for the 6-9 numbers. She knows all colour names, even the turquoises, magenta of the colour family.

Most of MsI's baby words are gone now. Until recently she called turquoise, "Koki Blue". "Koki" was also her word for Hogi, a character in Pink Fong. Hogi has turquoise hair. I literally asked MsI a moment ago if she could find me anything that was Koki blue and she looked at me with a puzzled look and said, "It's called turquoise". We do have a one hilarious baby word around lately; MsI and MsE both think snowflakes are called "Snow Flags." I'm pretty sure that idea comes from the paper snow flakes we cut with scissors.

MsI has also discovered Potty Humor. Leaning over and suddenly blowing a noisy raspberries on your arm or getting MsE to make their stuffies pretend to fart will send MsI into fits of head thrown back maniacal laughter.

MsI and MsE snuggling in "Blue" (MsE's blankie).

MsI and MsE play together all day long. MsE is her "best friend" and she doesn't give MsE much of a break. Lately their games all include animals at tea parties, restaurants, picnics or the doctor's. They also play with the Duplo together a lot. The small lego gets a lot of use too. Of course, there are lots of arts and crafts, playing on the playgrounds and swimming most days. She's happy to go out with our Helper Hazel and doesn't care who goes with her as long as she gets to go outside. On that note, she usually just waves if I and/or Jonathan leave the house.

MsI has grown so much she is almost a metre tall. Now she needs a Travel Card for the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) and bus. The card is free until the calendar year she turns 7. She is so thrilled to beep in and out to enter and exit the MRT station. She was an instant pro at it, after having watched the other girls do it for the past year and half. We've also been trying out going a few places with out a stroller at all.
