2020 was certainly a year to remember. Wishing everyone a safe 2021.

Once again, I left New Years Eve reservations too late and couldn't get a table any where I tried. I did discover though that our favorite burger place does Take Away. It also happens to be located at the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade.

Jonathan and I pre-ordered our dinner online for 7:30 pm pick-up, which is shortly after the sun sets in Singapore. We left the kids at home with our Helper, took the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), picked up our Black Tap order, and found a seat outside on the waterfront to chow down.

It was a rainy evening as it often is in December in Singapore. The rain cleared just as we picked up our food. There were a few drips from the Palm Trees above us, but didn't need our umbrellas once we arrived. I had thought ahead, and brought a towel to dry off our bench. The rain meant it was actually cool enough for a light sweater at 26 C.

After we ate, we strolled along the Promenade admiring the city lights while drinking our milkshakes. This also why we have no masks on in the photo - we were eating and drinking. With 3 kids to get to bed, we don't get out much at night.  The crowd was quite light. I imagine it got much busier on the Promenade as the night progressed.

Our New Years Eve view.
This is my idea of a light crowd in Singapore admiring the view.

We saw the short light show projected onto the Fullerton Hotel and the Merlion. It was reoccurring every 15 minutes until mid-night to discourage crowds from gathering.

There were also fireworks set to go off at midnight from a "hidden" locations across Singapore, as a nod to Singapore's usual huge NYE fireworks show, which were cancelled like most everything else was in 2020.

We were home well before those fireworks, early enough to put the kids to bed, much to MsI's extreme relief. It was a super simple, peaceful New Years Eve, and a lovely way to end a very stressful year.

I can't decide whether to say, I hope 2021 will be more or less eventful than 2020 was.

In 2020 we spent many many uneventful months just hanging out at home together. We had 3 full months of total lock-down in Singapore, where only essential services were allowed to operate, where we were not allowed to leave our neighbourhood, and we were really discouraged from leaving home at all.

I am hoping we will get to travel and have visitors in 2021, both of which are always eventful to me.

It was pretty eventful to be living in Asia, watching the pandemic roll across the globe from it's very first days; learning new rules and ways of defining "safe behavior;" dealing with the reemergence of chronic illnesses and managing new fears in our household; feeling the impact of the loss of both grandmothers and other people who were once close to me this year; and then there were a lot of crazy public events 2020 that caught our attention too.

I'd like a lot less of those in 2021.
