After a quick peek at the penguins, we started our visit to the Jurong Bird Park with the High Flyers Show.

MsC got picked as one of the volunteers. The cockatoo flew from the zookeeper on stage up into the crowd and landed on her outstretched arm. She was fearless - both at having hundreds of people looking at her and also having a large bird fly at her. The cockatoo brought her a coupon for a free drink at the concession. The show is pretty cool and is a nice way to see what birds can be trained to do.

After that we headed for the Lory Loft. I think this is the best part of the zoo! Anyone can enter the large aviary, but for $2 we got to feed the birds a sugar water solution from a little cup.

This was my best bird photo of the day.

The walkways here are high in the tree canopy so you are at the perfect bird viewing height, but so are the sides so I don't feel like anyone is going to fall off. It took a while to get the birds interested in our "drinks," but we did get a few takers. Their interest depends on how many people have been feeding them. I got one bird to walk onto my arm and another hopped up onto MsI's cup while she was holding it.

In typical fashion, complete strangers picked up our toddler and used her as a photo op. This happens all over the place when she is walking about independently. I kind of wish she wasn't so easy going about it, but you can see I took the photo anyhow.

There's lots to explore at the park. We were here for 3 or 4 hours and although we walked around the big loop of the park, we didn't stop and see all the exhibits. I got a kick out of these Giant Pelicans in the Pond near the end. I think they're as tall as MsE.

Although fun, the Jurong Bird Park is actually my least favorite of the 4 zoos in Singapore. It's based over a huge hill and has lots of stairs. With a stroller, I tend to get trapped by the stairs in odd places and have to backtrack. I find pushing the stroller up the giant hill, and then making sure it doesn't run away from me when we're on the down side, a distraction from the beautiful birds.

The whole bird park is moving up to where the other 3 zoos are in the North of the Island and I'm sure that will improve my experience of the Bird Park.
