Little Paths
The kids discovered the hidden garden paths at our condo complex.
The paths are used by the Gardeners for maintenance and watering. They're overgrown and full of fun textures: concrete or stone pavers, tiles, bricks or round pebbles. I stayed out on the main path and let the kids brave their way though them. They're not very long and loop right back to the main path. MsE went through with a stick first to scare away "anything" that might have been hanging out in there.
Boy did the kids have fun exploring these uncharted lands. I think the coolest part is that you don't realize their is a path back there, because the gardens are layered so well. I've been startled a few times to realize I'm standing a few feet from a gardener sitting on one of these path doing some silent weeding.
We discovered some new seeds today too. These ones are like burrs. The hairlike outsides looked like they would catch in an animal's fur, but it wasn't coarse enough to catch on our clothes like burrs in Canada would. We peeled the outside off one of the burrs - it was like very thin coconut husk. The seed was smooth and hard inside. We couldn't crack it open.
