Our luck at going out for lunch is getting worse.

Our favorite burger place in Boat Quay has closed, so we tried another location. Getting out of the Grab and strolling up, we discovered that actually all 3 locations in Singapore have closed - COVID is bad for business.

We were only slightly deterred; it's Singapore we won't starve. We realized we were near the Museum of Singapore, so wandered down the road to a favorite Food Court of ours only to discover it's closed too - O.K., Now we're getting hungry. Next, we tried to pop into a Hotel that in theory had a number of eateries. Sorry, the Hotel was closed up too; a Courtyard Marriott, I think.

We stood in the sun on the sidewalk for a bit staring at our Google Maps and our phones wondering if the next place we tried would also be closed. I eventually said I couldn't stand in the sun any longer; I wasn't wearing sunscreen; and so Jonathan said to follow him.

Although, Jonathan never wants to try anywhere new, he always knows the best places to go.

I was admiring a big church down the way, when Jonathan told me, "It's the Convent and that's where we're going".

The Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus from 1841 to 1983; it was a nunnery, girl's school, orphanage and the boarding house. It's enclosed grounds covered an entire city block. The space is now called Chijmes and currently houses the chapel and a number of restaurants across the grounds. We had our temperature checked and signed in for Contact Tracing before we entered the grounds - just like we do everywhere in Singapore.

Some of the restraunts were enclosed, but at least half were outdoor patios. The courtyard below was for a Pub only open in the evening currently, but wouldn't that be a lovely place to have a drink.

We wandered around until we'd checked out most of the options. We settled for Senor Taco, which had gluten free corn tortillas and an gorgeous view of the chapel.

As we were waiting for our Grab home, I was admiring the church from outside when we saw a bride and her entourage come around the corner and proceed with their wedding photos. We also admired their lavish car parked out front which was decorated with fresh flowers. Jonathan says this is the chapel where the wedding takes place in the movie Crazy Rich Asians.
