Our Grab was $181 RM ($59 SG/CAD) from Ipoh to the Cameron Highlands. I was very glad that we paid a driver and didn't attempt to drive it ourselves.
For our later return, we paid $250 ($81 SG/CAD) to get back to the the Ipoh airport, which pays for their drive to iPoh and then return to the Highlands.
As soon as we got in the car we realized this was going to be an interesting drive. First off, our Grab driver only spoke Malay, with a very limited bit of English. Next every inch of the interior of the car was covered in something - mats covers on the floor, a dash cover, a stuffy on the dash, trinkets dangling from the mirror. But more importantly we were driving down the center of 2 lanes - and we were still in the middle of a busy town. Turns out those lanes are just a suggestion in Malaysia. No one paid them any attention, not even the solid line separating us from the on coming traffic. I was delegated to the front seat with my steely nerves.
At least 3 times on our way up the highway into the mountains we had an on coming car in our lane coming straight for us. I figured we would be fine as long as our driver wasn't applying the brakes - he never did, and the oncoming car dove back to it's correct side of the road at the last minute each time. It was a very narrow winding road, 1 lane on each side of the road most of the way, with the occasional 2nd lane to allow for passing.

The drivers never waited for the second lane though. As soon as we were behind a slower vehicle - there were lots of slower delivery trucks, our driver would poke out into the other lane to see if there was any oncoming traffic. This would usually require a few dives out and back in before the coast was clear enough to pass. It didn't deter anyone that we were at highway speeds and there was yet another corner just a head which was impossible to see around. Some of the corners had 5 caution signs before you hit the corner.

The scenery was amazing though. The jungle is so green and the canyons were deep. Landslides and flooding of the road is common after a couple of hours of rain, and it is Monsoon Season. We saw wild orchids growing along the road sides.

We passed many of these little stands were honey, fruit and local good were sold by villagers who live along the highway and in this jungle. After 2 hours we arrived in the Cameron Highlands at the Copthorne Hotel, where we would be staying for 2 nights.
