It seemed like a good time to mix things up, so we've put away our History book and pulled out the children's literature.

"History Quest: Early Civilizations" was moving into a phase which was about to focus on warfare. It was creeping MsE out, so we've decided to leave the rest of the book for next year. I thought we'd get to Greek Myths this year, but I'm looking forward to doing the 2nd half of the book thoroughly next year instead. We've been working our way through that book, supplementing with extra library books, and lots of art projects for each section, so I'm not surprised that we didn't get through it in one school year.

For the next few months, I think we are going to read Roald Dahl books. We started out with my all time favorite children's book, "Matilda". It's the first chapter book I read to myself as a child and it's still one of my favorite books of all time.

I've picked up a stack of tea time supplies: a variety of new themed napkins and paper plates to keep things interesting. For napkins, we've got music notes; bears; and world stamps. For plates, we've got whole faces of bears, foxes, and cats. They have nothing to do with Matilda - but sometimes we need another reason to come to the table.

Even just in the first chapters, Matilda has already led to some meaningful discussions about honesty and lying. I'm glad I waited until MsE was old enough for this book too.

We've already had some good belly laughs all together too.
