Singapore is called the garden city, but it's usually a very manicured garden.
During essential services garden services were limited, if not cancelled all together. Things grow like mad here, where the sun always shines, yet the rains are aplenty. Now the grasses are long, weeds are high, the bushes are spilling over the paths.
At 8 weeks in, the manicure is gone.
I wrote a post a while back about all the marine life we're seeing in the saltwater canals of our condo which are connected to the ocean: Sting rays, salt water turtles, plenty of fish. A number of neighbours have spotted monkeys in the palm trees at our condo who've come down from Mt. Faber. Normally the busy road and all the people would have kept them away. In the air, there are plenty of birds. The latest one I've added to my list of sights is the Brahminy Kite. It looks like a Bald Eagle, but with golden brown wings. I keep seeing it soaring quite low over the boats moored in the the marina.

But it's the insects I'm noticing now. My 2 block walk to buy groceries revealed at least 5 different types of butterflies and a couple dragonflies.

Everyone says nature's taking over due to the absence of the usual people everywhere. I quite like this overgrown look.
