Morning Stroll
Jonathan and MsI and I took a morning stroll to Labrador Park.
Jonathan said he actually runs through the park a number of times a week, but MsI and I hadn't been through it in what felt like a long time.
I noticed that all the benches and areas of the park are open now. But, they've been opened up recently enough, that the x's telling us not to sit on the benches are still clearly visible from where the tape markings have been removed. I imagine this means our well loved old fashioned style playground with the sand base is open now too. It's found deeper in the park, but we didn't go that far.
When MsI realized we were going to the Park, she ran and got Hei Hei (the chicken from Moana). She wanted to show him the the Jungle Fowl that live in the park.
We were able to find the Jungle Fowl and clearly see that Hei Hei is the same type of chicken. He has the exact same colouring and markings, even down to the brown spot on their backs.
While we were making sure we didn't make the roosters nervous by getting too close to the Jungle Fowl, we also saw a butterfly on the ground. It looked a little beat up with slightly damaged wings, but it was still alive, and gave MsI and me a chance to get a really good look at it.
We also spotted 3 different types of lizards on our walk:
- A smallish Water Monitor Lizard, about 3 feet long, standing in the long grass back from the water edge;
- A different type of lizard, about 18 inches long or 2 feet long, sunning itself on a log over the ocean; and then
- a tiny one, about 6 inches long, that darted across the path right in front of MsI's feet. She almost tripped over it, and instead of fleeing, she followed and watched it hiding under a bush for a bit.
MsI also ran off the path to see if the bird nest we were observing in the Spring was still there. We had gone back to the same spot in the bushes a number of times, to see what happened to it as time passed. It was gone, just like the last time we had checked the spot, but I was surprised that she had remembered to look for it.
It freaked me out a little to see MsI dart off the path into the grass - I was remembering the snake from our last park adventure. Thankfully, we saw no snakes on this park trip. I usually go first and get the kids to follow me if we go off the concrete trail.
