SDL Day 30: Out the Window

We're starting to find whatever is outside the window really exciting. A shout might bring all 6 of us running to see what's happening outside.

We've noticed a lot more marine life in the canal than we've ever seen before. I'm pretty sure we just weren't looking.

There are some pretty good sized fish. They're long and silvery, and now that we know to look for them, we can usually see 1 or 2  most of the times we peek out the window. We've spotted a Ray (like a stingray) just once so far. Yesterday there was a pink jelly fish. It took us a while to figure out what it was. MsE named it "Jelly", because what else do you name a Jellyfish.

Can you see the long fish?

We see the occasional a small school of about 5 fish - these remind me more of reef fish than the long silvery ones.

We're also doing a fair bit of bird watching out the window. This usually looks like a larger bird zipping by, someone yelling for us to come and see, but we've missed it, so they trying to explain the bird so we can find it in the bird book and name it. Often a bird will go by a few times in a short period, so we come up with an identification most of the time.

I used to leave the sheers closed most of the time in the bedrooms, in part to keep things cooler, but mostly so that no one would get it in their head that they needed to go jump in the pool that second or see a friend and demand that we run down to the playground to join them. Now that neither of those are options, I'm keeping the curtains wide open most of the day for the sunlight and the added interest.

There's a bit of people watching to do too. There's not a huge amount of foot traffic now, most people are staying indoors, but people with toddlers and dogs seem to be out the most often. We can see one of the main bridges from our window so there's someone to observe every 5 minutes of so.

When we see someone we know, there's some jumping and waving and occasionally if it's someone really special to us the girls will want to wave from the balcony. We try not to call out to anyone. Many of the neighbours keep their doors and window open to save on air conditioning.

One day we saw a bride and groom as the bridges in our complex here are a popular spot for wedding photos. That was when households were still allowed to meet as long as groups didn't exceed 10 people. They had exactly 10 people with the photographer. MsE always shouts that there's a princess out the window when this happens.

Now that Jonathan has taken over the bedroom as his office, I've started dragging a chair on to the patio if it's cool enough - in the early morning or a rainy day, so that I can get five minutes without the kids. If it's too hot, I'll sit on the floor of MsE or MsI's room with my coffee and the door closed watching out the window.
