We had a play date at the Far East Organization's Children's Garden.

The weather has turned quite hot in Singapore now. We left our condo to travel to Garden by the Bay together at 9:30 and it was already very hot. I was worried that we didn't have sunscreen on yet for the 10 minute walk to the MRT.

At our destination I had to run through the sprinklers regularly to cool myself down, I was wearing a bathing suit and sitting in the shade under the outdoor fans. We went through all the drinking water we brought and should have brought more. Water fountains are closed for Covid prevention, so it's harder to get a refill than before.

I think we were quite brave: 2 Moms with 6 little girls between the ages 2 and 8 years old, using public transit. We were out for 6 hours and no one cried. We were a party of 8 - the maximum number of people allowed out together in Singapore currently.

We were not a quiet bunch on the MRT. We did manage to stay together by sandwiching ourselves into the front of the MRTs we rode. It helped to be able to watch the train going down the tube.

We all had a blast in the sprinklers as usual, but we spent a lot of time on this day's adventure in the playground behind the water park too. It's a magical playground. The floor is deep soft white sand. Climbing rope vines take you up 3 stories high. There are enclosed metal tube slides (so the don't get hot in the sun) to get back down. Up in the trees you can swing on anchored tire swings or run along swaying bridges which take you over to the top of the hillside, where you can run through natural vine tunnels and find a whole other set of climbing structures and slides.

That's MsI going up and over the top. She said the metal was "Hot! Hot!"

Amid all the climbing and other play structures, each one of the girls eventually found and climbed the tree below. I'm always relieved when I see them climb a tree; Climbing a tree seems like such a true part of childhood.  Tree climbing is not something that happens very often here in Singapore. The trees in the Nature Parks are naturally covered in sharp spines; home to thousands of ants; or housing enough leaves to be hiding a snake. The trees around our condo are slick palm trees or the delicate Plumeria sandwiched deep in the middle of bushy planters. No climbing potential there.
