Rain, Rain... Where is the rain?

In Canada you hear the saying, "Make hay while the sun shines". I always feel that we should be outside on a sunny day. That feeling is a little problematic in Singapore. Because of course, it's been basically sunny every day and there are things that have to happen inside like cleaning the house, preparing food, nap time, actually unpacking... So far we've tended to do our school work inside. Once we get into a routine, we will probably settle on a pool side table near the playground so Ms.I can play.

I am seriously relieved when it rains here in Singapore. The West Coast of Canada has a lot of rainy days, so I know what to do. Time to grab our blankies and a stack of books, and cozy up on the couch as we listen to the rain.

The kids love to stand in the rain here, because you don't get cold.

This was the driest July on record in Singapore. We had only 8 days with rain for a grand total of 12.2 mm of rain. Last July had 10 rainy days with 143.2 mm. On average July has 158.7 mm. That's a lot less than normal, right? Climate change?

As if the rain wasn't enough, you need to watch out for random roof/gutter waterfalls when it's raining.

It looks like July is generally one of drier month of the year, with November to December being the wettest with an average of 19 days with rain. Of course the average daytime high only fluctuates between 31.7 C and 30 C over the whole year, so I think ever day is a jolly holiday.

I love heading out right after it rains. The air feels almost cool. It's the perfect time for a walk. Just avoid any run off from the gutters and the metal drain grates on the sidewalk which can be slippery. After rain the pool temperature also leans toward refreshingly cool.
