Our Drama class resumed last week; only now it's online.

The first online class was pretty crazy, maybe 12 kids showed up.  By the second class the instructors seemed to have it figured out. I think their biggest learning is to leave everyone on mute unless the kids are answering a question or sometimes singing a song together.

I have one child who sits in from of the computer for the entire 90 minute class. When they ask her to stand up, she stands up. When they dance or sing, she does it most of the time. She plays all the games with them: Simon Says, Pictionary, Find a certain item in the room...

The other child who refuses to even say Hi. If she wanders in to the room while the class is still on,  she runs from the room as soon as she realizes. She says she doesn't like the class like. She is happy to keep reading her script and will rejoin when they are in person.

I just don't know when or really if they will resume in person. I'm also not sure I want our kids with a large group of children from various schools for 90 minutes each week. It's the only large group activity we do. It also means 2 bus trips.

I feel terrible considering pulling the kids from this class. The girls have done a great job memorizing their lines and one of the girls has a major part in the play. They love this class in person, but online I'm not so convinced. It kind of defeats the whole purpose: ensuring the kids work together with other children in a more formal setting, public speaking, a little bit of voice lessons, and getting some serious exercise in.

I have to pay for Term 2 in a few weeks in order to continue and this class is not cheap. I'm not sure what we'll do. It will probably depend on how the kids react to next class.

The company that does their drama class is also doing online birthday parties currently. We were able to attend one and all 3 girls loved it. I think that shows that it's not the format of the class online (which was very similar to the birthday party). It's more the stress is that it's different than their class was before and that they can't play with their friends during it. It's also way less movement, despite the instructor's best efforts.

The girls favorite part of the birthday party seemed to be trying to build the largest a toilet paper tower. If Amazon had our usual toilet paper jumbo pack in stock we would have won. We only had 16 rolls in the house. They also enjoyed building a boat of people (with an adult). MsE wanted to be the figure head at the bow of our boat. She had me try to hold her up out front while being the boat lying down with the other 2 kids on my back. Sorry I don't have a picture of that.

Our toilet paper tower (Don't worry we didn't cut her hair. It's looks that way as part of her costume)
I caught MsI knocking it down.
