SDL 77: Embracing Change
It took more than 10 weeks of Lockdown to convince Jonathan to rearrange the living room, but I finally did it.
For me I was just rearranging the living room, because I was bored. Jonathan came on board as he realized it would let us to add more bookshelves. You know, because the current 60 cubes of bookshelves wasn't enough. It wasn't. There's about 100 books currently without homes and I'm sure there's more in the mail.
The new layout lets us add 24 more cubes, giving us a grand total of 91 feet of usable shelving for books.
Rearranging the living room also scored more floor space for our Dance Parties. Somehow our rocking chair even ended up fitting. I had accepted that I'd have to sell it, as an inevitability of getting a "new" living room.
Overall our place looks way bigger, but our TV looks comically tiny against the big empty wall. I would add pictures but that's almost impossible as the walls as concrete.
The ultimate results were actually more shocking than the amount of space we gained.
The people were okay with the change! No one cried! No one complained! In fact, everyone thought it was really cool that the living room was different, and that is really weird. It's probably the weirdest thing that has happened in Lockdown.
I'd say I usually rearrange our furniture every 6 months or so, and EVERY single time, everyone is really upset about it FOR WEEKS.
Then I got my hair cut and my most resistant child's reaction was to say,
"Boring!"
Seriously, that's what she said to my new haircut when I came in the door. Usually, she cries.
What has this Lockdown actually done to us, psychologically? I'm a little freaked out by the lack of reaction to CHANGE.
