Social Distancing Log - Day 3
This morning we received a text notification from the Government of Singapore saying:
"All are advised to:
🛋Stay home
🥚🥬 Only head to a mall for essentials, like food
👥👥 Expect queues, especially during peak hours
👨↔👩 Keep at least 1 metre apart from others
📦 Buy food and groceries online
Reducing physical interactions is critical to curb local transmission."
Based on the number of people we've seen out our window congregating at the pool and the groups of children playing together, people have not gotten the message.
Seeing as it's a Saturday and the pool was packed, we haven't been outside today. (The photo above was Saturday March 28, 2020 at 4:30 pm. It was busier earlier in the day).
I tried to order groceries at 10:30 am and all the Amazon Prime slots were full for the next 48 hours. I'll be trying for a slot again as soon as I wake up tomorrow. On a positive note, there seemed to be rice and diapers, though no toilet paper. We'll see what's in stock by the time I actually get a delivery slot.
MsE and I made "Sarabi" for brunch - Indonesian Coconut Pancakes. They're naturally gluten and dairy free. The kids ate them with liquid palm sugar (because I'm out of syrup), and Jonathan and I ate them with the traditional sauce, homemade, coconut cream and brown sugar cooked till it's dark and thickened. The pancakes themselves are made from rice flour and coconut milk. They're fried only on one side as tiny little pancakes.
I wondered if MsE was too young to add the batter to the pan, and do the flipping. But I remembered how proud I was when my Granny always let me. I'm pretty sure I around age 5. I can still remember how incredibly proud I was the first time I flipped a pancake perfectly. Sarabi are even easier, because you don't flip them. You just wait till they're cooked through and then get them out of the pan.
Later I reorganized our Lobby (a task deferred long enough); and took out the recycling (a task I avoid as long as possible).
Each suite in our condo complex has a Private Lift (Elevator). This means only the 10 units in our row use the same Lift, and the lift will only stop at a unit if you have the correct key fob. Our Lobby also has 2 doors in addition to the Lift: One into our unit and the other out to the main hallway which has a Service Elevator where deliveries come and the stairwell exit for emergencies.
Because our Lobby is private, it's the place we keep our stroller, all our shoes, and the kids outdoor toys (like balls and scooters). It's usually home to stacks of hats, small toys the kids have dragged in, and a pile of umbrellas too. There was also a stack of boxes full of shoes we don't wear - too big, too small, and boots. I wish I'd taken a before picture.
To organize the Lobby I built the small shelving unit you can see in the picture. It's technically a $10 shoe rack, and I've had it hanging around waiting to be set up for at least a month. Our shoes are on open shelving under the bench. I had kids sit and try on shoes. Now we're down to 3 pairs of shoes that won't fit for ages and 2 pairs of adult hiking boots. I put them away in our "out of season clothes" closet (MsI's room).
This is how bad I let the recycling get, before I took it down to the basement. I saw one of the Cleaners in the distance in the basement, but didn't run into anyone. I also realized we shouldn't share elevators with others anymore - not that it happens very often at home.
Now I think I might re-shelve the Children's Books. All the books on top need to put in their places. I seem to be the only one who knows "where" to put books away, although everyone seems to find what they're looking for quickly enough.
