Jonathan celebrated his birthday and I convinced him to try eating somewhere new.

We almost never get out in the evening, but we headed out in a Grab after work, had dinner, a nice little walk and even made it home to put the kids to bed only slightly later than usual.

The first thing I noticed was that 6 pm is the best temperature in Singapore. The sun is quite low in the sky, you don't even need sunglasses, and there is often a light breeze at this time. It's perfect. It doesn't cool off much more than that as the night progresses either.

We hit up Super Loco Customs House. Seeing as how 6 pm is was soooo early for dinner in Singapore, we got a table right on the patio on the pier over the river. Our view was amazing with Marina Bay Sands Hotel (the boat in the sky) as the backdrop to our dinner.

We actually tried Black Tap first for their burgers, but they didn't have dairy free buns so we decided to try our luck elsewhere. I looked across the river and there with a giant sign was Super Loco Custom House which we had been considering first when we were back at home. We had had no idea they were so close to each other. So we walked there. Did you know that the river has lawn chairs instead of benches there?!

Lawn chairs instead of park benches - so civilized.

Super Loco was excellent about allergies.  They easily accommodated both our separate dairy and gluten allergies. Any waitstaff that came to our table clarified our allergies each time. It was amazing. They were better about allergies than anywhere I've eaten in Singapore so far. They had an allergy code on the menu and they were happy to customize to remove dairy from dishes. That never happens in Singapore; it's always take it or leave it.

It was all amazing and excellent Mexican food at that too. There were about 4 different tacos to try, along with other tempting things on the menu.

We had taco chips and homemade salsa to start, and then 2 chorizo chipotle tacos each. We split an order spiced of rice. I got a lime margarita. It was happy hour - the only way you can afford a drink in Singapore. If I hadn't already had the margarita, I would have been tempted to try their chocolate avocado mousse. This restaurant was on the expensive side, but I'm so eating here again. They had a Quick Lunch menu too.

After dinner we went for a little walk to try to find another one of Singapore's permanent merlion statues. We found it. I've located 3 of the 7 merlions so far.

The fancy hotel we passed. The cars being valet parked were impressive.
A small temporary merlion.

Interestingly our Grab was quoted about $5 less after we took our little walk, even though we were technically farther from home. We're assuming it was because we were no longer beside the very expensive hotel.
