Swimming Pools

Our big day at the Far East Organization Children's Garden left us feeling worn out so we spent the next morning playing at our hotel pool. Ms.C's made friends with 3 families with children so there was lots of fun in the pool. She's become a solid swimmer. She can't touch in the "adults" pool, and after an hour she was still going strong. Ms.C has learned to her back float and to tread water in her time here already. The 2 littlest can't swim at all, but we're working on our back floats and neither of them has any fear of getting water in their eyes. Ms.I loves to blow bubbles in the water.

As soon as we get into our permanent home, we will be getting everybody into swimming lessons again. In Singapore, you pay the swimming instructor to come give private lessons in your condo's pool. Sometimes parents will get together to arrange a bunch of lessons with one instructor. Apparently kids take swimming lessons at school too.

Water safety is so important here. Pools are not enclosed and kids have access to open water everywhere! In our house hunting one of the things I liked about the larger complexes was that at least some of the playgrounds weren't right beside pools. I think it's a little ironic that I was so concerned about our tiny creek back home, but we've brought the kids to a country where we walk right along the open pool just to go to breakfast in the morning.
