We're in the 6 month slump!
When we moved here, the expats all told us to be aware that the 6 month slump was coming. This is blah feeling that sets in after all the excitement of moving to new place. After 6 months you've settled in, unpacked, and you just live here now. Every day isn't nearly as exciting as it was before.
We moved to Singapore at the beginning of June 2019, so we've been here 7 months now. I'm in that 6 month slump now. I don't want to go back home or do anything different. It's just not as exciting as before. I'm also trying to get myself into a school routine with the girls. They're enrolled in a few classes too, which means we have places to be. Both of which means I can't just fly out the door on random big outings every 5 minutes. Routine and schedules are not my strong suit.
But I don't really feel like going out either, which is a bit confusing for me. I generally like to be going ALL the time. The kids reached this point long before me. They were tired of the sightseeing and just wanted to be at home.
I imagine some of this slump is the post-guests/post-christmas feeling too. I always though that blah January feeling was from the cold wet weather, but maybe it is from all the excitement of December. Because it's hot and sunny in Singapore. I'm feeling worn out, but part of me thinks I should be out seeing new things, meeting with people, continuing the excitement that moving to Singapore has been.
I do have a teething 2 year old too - so it's not like I get to sleep all night either.
On the other hand, Chinese New Year starts in a week. Jonathan has 4 days off and there will be celebrations to get out and experience. After that we start up our weekly Art Co-op group, and then Grandma (Jonathan's Mom) is coming to visit for 2 weeks.
I really should be using this "season" to recuperate, get some solid schooling done, and hibernate a bit before launching into our next phase. Everyone tells me the 6 month slump is just that - a slump - and it passes soon enough. The important thing is to remember it's just a natural part of this huge change we've made, and it doesn't mean we're doing it wrong.
It's also not all blah. Look at these new parrots below that have been hanging around our place. And today here in Singapore we went to the pool for a swim before lunch, while my sister in Canada looked out at the West Coast's soggy snow coming down.
