Online Grocery Shopping Mistakes
I'm trying to do some online grocery shopping, but I'm not very good with sizes. I just don't know what different sizes look like, especially in grams. In Canada I compensated by looking at prices, but in Singapore that's not working out so well. Below are some of the more hilarious errors.
- A 10 lb bag of rice for $5. I'm totally okay with this mistake. I was expecting smaller.
- Tortilla Chips for $1.40. For that price, I should have realized this was a single serving size. A regular sized bag is actually $6.50. We will not be eating many of these.
- 450 grams of Frozen Corn for $2.95. Maybe canned corn will be cheaper.
- Five 2-slice packages of gluten free bread for $10. That's $1 per slice the size of my palm. I could easily have eaten all 5 packages in one sitting. I knew this was way too good to be true. I was expecting loaves the size of my palm, not slices. It was worth a try though; I hadn't eaten a sandwich in almost 2 months.
Some of my other grocery challenges....
It's taken me about 2 months to figure out Diapers. First, how many kg does my toddler weigh? Actually for that matter, how many pounds does she even weigh? In theory she should be fitting into an XL here, but they fall off her. Second, there's very limited English on the packages. Look our for Baby Dry, because the plastic of those gives us diaper rash. If it's those, it's found in very small print on the back or side. Also make sure they are "Diapers" and not "Pants". Pants are Pull Ups, which mean diaper rashes if we wear them overnight. My preferred brand here is actually Japanese ones called "Merries". I also haven't some across any disposable swim diapers, which isn't horrible, but I've only got one reusable one, and we swim most days.
"Mom, the watermelon is the wrong colour." Apparently watermelons can be yellow. Ms.E has informed us that she does not eat yellow watermelons.
And of course the notorious "Thai Red Curry Paste" that does not make Thai Red Curry that tastes like it does in Canada.
I'm sure there will be more grocery mistakes to come. Most days I laugh about them.
